Wow! I mentioned in my last blog post how there had been a raid on Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd (which is a few doors away from my flat) last weekend:
I have just noticed that today’s edition of The Telegraph contains an article which says that the raiders used wheelie bins to transport their tools and equipment to the building, and later the stollen jewellery away from it. OMG! I must remember to check my Wheelie Bin next time I put it out for the Dustmen in case the raiders left a few gold bars and diamonds in it by mistake!
I also noticed another article in today’s edition of The Telegraph which suggests Scotland Yard could face legal action due to the Police failing to respond to the Security Alams that were set off during the heist.
It is interesting following the story as more facts are slowly made public. Thankfully I did not, myself, have a Deposit Box with this company… but it is still worrying that such a seemily secure building could be broken into and the raiders allowed to continue the heist for such a long time (possibly several days) undisturbed after setting off the alarms and the Police being notified.
The estimated value of the jewels stolen now seems to have risen to “up to £200,000,000” even although Police are still trying to identify and contact the owners of the Deposit Boxes which had been opened.
